It was always going to be music that brought us together. It was Sarah's first time at the Pete's Candy Store open mic and Dalton's return after nearly a decade-long absence. In a sea of boring, bitter breakup songs, we found each other. Sarah played a song about a demon from one of her musicals. Dalton played a song about circus freaks falling in love. We knew we had to get to know each other.

Sarah went home to gush to her grandmother about her first open mic and her first new friend in the city. Dalton messaged his best friend, Calvin: "This girl is gonna be a problem."

For our first date, we attended a Little Simz concert at Brooklyn Steel. Sarah arrived for the date without her wallet or keys and a dead phone. From day one, Sarah decided that she could really trust Dalton. Without her ID, the only way for her to get into the concert was for Dalton to sign a form saying that he was her legal guardian for the evening.

Later that same night, after that crisis was averted, we had our first conversation about marriage and how important it was to both of us.

Many dates later (but not that many), Dalton popped the question at the TWA Hotel. It was meant to be a surprise, but Sarah hates those, so she approved both the venue and the ring Dalton picked out with his mother.

Two months later, we moved into our apartment in Bushwick, and Sarah joyfully added Dalton's cats, Holly and Weenie, into her life and routine. When they are nice, they are our cats. When they are naughty, they are Dalton's cats. But we're about to change that forever.

Since the beginning, our relationship has been full of music, shared goals, trust, understanding, and affection. We look forward to sharing the next step with our family and friends at our wedding. Note by note, measure by measure, we can't wait to live the rest of our lives together in harmony.
